Our Learning this week…

Well done Years 5 and 6 for a great start to the new term. In Year 6 this week we have been working on algebra in maths, which has been quite tricky at times. In English we have been learning about the subjunctive mood. We have also been making leaflets or posters all about the famous Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, and writing formal letters to try to persuade people to sponsor his expedition to cross Antarctica for the first time. We have linked this with our new topic ‘Poles Apart’, which is all about the Arctic and Antarctic.

In Year 5 this week in Maths the children have been working on reading different types of timetables, and using them to answer worded problems. They have also been enjoying a Science week on the theme of ‘Forces’. The children have found out all about pushes, pulls, friction, gravity, upthrust, air resistance and water resistance. This has been linked with English work when the children have written up their scientific investigations as reports.
