End of Term Letter from our Staff Governor

Dear Parents and Carers,

I have been working at Staplehurst since September 2015, and with the change over the past two years I wanted to join the governing body as a staff governor to become a wider part of the school community and share with others the changes and progress that we are making in school.  Part of my role as a staff governor is to encourage more links with our community. If there is anyone out there who would like to share their roles, responsibilities and experiences with us then we would love to have you in our school. Please speak to or email the office.

Firstly, I would like to say a huge congratulations to all of the children in Years 2 and 6 and all of the staff for supporting our children with their SATs testing this term. Despite the pressures of these assessments, it has been so encouraging to see the children supporting each other and using their mindfulness breathing to help calm their nerves. It was really nice to be able to serve the children their SATs breakfast and offer words of encouragement and advice.

With our whole school focus on reading, the children have been so intrigued and more excited than ever to share their reading with us. The ‘Parents in to Read’ scheme has been a huge success in Early Years and Year 1 and I would like to personally thank all of those who take their time out to come and read with our children. It really does make a huge, positive impact to all children’s reading and confidence as well. ‘A child who reads 20 minutes per day will be exposed to almost 2 million words each year.’ I look forward to starting the ‘Parents in to Read’ scheme in Years 2, 3 and 4 after half term and continuing its success throughout the school.

We have so much to look forward to in our final term of this academic year, and this is personally my favourite term! I am especially looking forward to watching our Year 6 production and supporting our PTA Summer Fair. We also have our Keeping Healthy Week coming up in school where we will be focusing all of our learning that week on how we can all keep ourselves healthy and take part in our annual Sports Day.

I wish you all a relaxing half term and I look forward to seeing everyone back for our final term this year.

Yours sincerely,
Daniella O’Brien
