Phonics

 At Staplehurst School, we teach phonics using the Read Write Inc scheme. This systematic approach to reading means that in Reception, the children are introduced to reading and writing letter sounds using pictures, and then progress on to reading books which are carefully matched to the sounds they have been taught. Children have daily phonics lessons which teach them to segment and blend words allowing them to become confident, fluent readers and writers.​ All children take part in the National Phonics Screening Check at the end of Year 1.
