Physical Education at Staplehurst Primary School

At Staplehurst Primary School, we are dedicated to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle for all our students. Our Physical Education (PE) program is designed to inspire a love for physical activity and instill positive attitudes towards fitness and well-being. We believe that engaging in high-quality physical education not only supports children’s physical development but also enhances their mental and social skills.

Our Approach: realPE

realPE

We utilise the realPE platform to deliver a comprehensive and holistic PE curriculum. This approach focuses on developing fundamental movement skills and essential learning behaviors that are crucial for success in various sports. All our teachers are trained to implement the realPE curriculum, ensuring a consistent and enriching experience for every student.

PE

In PE lessons, students are introduced to a wide range of sports, including: Football, Netball, Basketball, Gymnastics, Tag Rugby, Dance, Tennis and Cricket. This diverse curriculum not only helps children acquire specific skills but also promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, and resilience. Through participation in competitive and non-competitive activities, students learn to handle both success and failure, which fosters their personal growth and reflective practices.

Swimming

Swimming is an essential component of our physical education curriculum, currently taught to Year 6 students at Staplehurst School. Children receive swimming lessons for one academic term, adhering to the National Curriculum requirements. Each pupil is expected to achieve the following competencies:
Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
Swim competently, confidently, and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 meters.
Use a range of strokes effectively, including front crawl, backstroke, and breaststroke.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities

We offer a variety of after-school sporting activities for students of all ages. These opportunities allow children to explore new sports, develop their skills further, and understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Our extracurricular programs emphasise the benefits of physical activity and healthy eating, encouraging students to make informed choices for their well-being.
Thank you for visiting our PE page! We look forward to seeing our students thrive through movement and sports.
